California Automatic Voter Registration
SB 583 removes barriers to the ballot box for California’s historically most disenfranchised communities by expanding automatic voter registration to public agencies like the DMV and MediCal. This ensures that all Californians have the right to vote in each and every election while protecting non-citizens from unintentionally ending up on the voter rolls. That’s a win-win for our democracy, our voices, and our state.
Accurate and convenient
Voters would have more opportunities to update their address and ensure voter records are accurate. This prepares us one step closer towards universal vote-by-mail.
Focus on communities
The change would promote voter registration among historically disenfranchised communities: 34% of the Latinx and 28% of the Black community1 is enrolled in Medcaid.
