Job: Civic Engagement Manager

The Civic Engagement Manager will implement and manage OC Action’s integrated voter engagement (IVE) strategy, civic engagement activities and program capacity building.

In collaboration with the Civic Engagement team, the Civic Engagement Manager will implement and manage OC Action’s integrated voter engagement (IVE) strategy, civic engagement activities and program capacity building, in service to the achievement of the alliance’s goals and objectives. This can look like: nonpartisan and partisan voter mobilization and GOTV efforts, advocacy and community organizing, leadership development, community education, and supporting the integration of civic engagement strategies into alliance partners’ organizational programming. The Civic Engagement Manager will also embody OC Action’s mission and values and be able to speak to the needs of OC Action’s participants and communities.

Essential Functions
  • Execute the implementation, coordination, and management of IVE efforts for OC Action campaigns including field – door to door canvassing, phone banking, text banking, traditional and digital media, community forums, etc
  • Provide coaching and trainings to Alliance Leads who are building and strengthening their IVE infrastructure, programs, and skills
  • Assess and identify opportunities for leadership development for Alliance Leads
  • Co-create and support existing civic engagement programs
  • Facilitate evaluation of program effectiveness, and draft qualitative and quantitative reports on the outcomes of the civic engagement program
  • Co-develop and finalize annual civic engagement plans and budgets
  • Strengthen the alliance ecosystem and connect stakeholders by centering and bridging relationships across Alliance Lead organizers, Executive leadership, and external allies
  • Work with diverse stakeholders on issues related to governance, economic justice, housing, health, education, immigrant rights, environmental justice, and worker’s rights
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, staff trainings, programs, and supervision sessions
  • Perform any other functions as needed by management and the organization
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in developing and carrying out issue campaigns, voter engagement, and/or voter mobilization
  • Experience in voting rights and social justice issues, electioneering, and/or public policy
  • Willingness to engage in relationship building and conflict resolution with diverse stakeholders
  • Must be comfortable with the philosophy and goals of OC Action
  • Experience with underserved communities
  • Ability to work in a diverse team and overcome obstacles
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
  • Flexible and nimble
  • Self motivated and initiative
  • Strong coordinator and networker
  • Verification of employment eligibility and Background Check required
  • Current and valid California Driver’s License or ID
  • Access to transportation to travel to conferences, meetings, and trainings (if driving, verification of car insurance is required)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing IVE programming
  • Knowledge of voter engagement and mobilization technologies and databases
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • Attention to detail and well organized
  • Creative and innovative in the development and implementation of IVE strategies
  • Experience with Google Suite and Canva
Management Responsibilities
  • This position is responsible for managing a team of Civic Engagement Campaign Leads

The environment for this position is a shared office and outside exposed to weather conditions and noise.

In the course of performing this job, the employee typically spends time sitting, standing, driving, walking, typing, listening, and speaking.
